The Deutsch Foundation is thrilled by the news that Sammy Hoi will become the next president of MICA as of July 1. Hoi is currently president of Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles and has established a national reputation for progressive thinking and the ability to leverage institutional resources to develop meaningful community-based collaborations—just what we need here in Baltimore.

“As we look toward the future I see exciting times ahead,” said Hoi. “With an incredibly talented community of faculty, staff and students, MICA has tremendous momentum in developing 21st century educational programs and modes in contributing to the renaissance of the city of Baltimore and expanding the college’s international leadership and visibility. Artists and designers can contribute from commerce to culture to community building and everything in between.”

In addition to his leadership of Otis, Hoi served as director of the Parsons School of Design in Paris, and as Dean of the Corcoran College of Art and Design in DC.

We look forward to welcoming President Hoi to Baltimore and working together to build and strengthen the vibrant and diverse arts, design and culture sector throughout the Baltimore region.
