2017 Maryland Film Festival
Rubys grantees and jurors representing at the 2017 Maryland Film Festival May 3-7 include Theo Anthony, Ramona Diaz, and Matthew Porterfield.
Theo Anthony’s (2016 media arts) Rat Film is a feature-length documentary that uses the rat — as well as the humans that love them, live with them, and kill them — to explore the history of Baltimore. Theo is also participating on the May 6 panel Rat Rubout.
Ramona Diaz’ (2014 media arts juror) Motherland takes us into one of the world’s busiest maternity wards — Manila’s National Maternity Hospital.
Matthew Porterfield (2014 media arts) is participating on the May 6 panel Relation to Place: Narrative Filmmaking and the Cinematic Landscape.
In addition Film/ Ruby news: Agnes Moon’s (2015 media arts) I Am Learning to Abandon the World is screening this month at both the Motivate Underground Film Festival (Harrisburg, PA) and the San Francisco Sex Worker Film and Arts Festival. I Am Learning to Abandon the World is a 16mm, silent film composed of the non-explicit shots culled from a trove of vintage “adult” films that create a narrative that studies female subjectivity, mood without action, and that which cannot be represented.
